In 2009 PAWS helped find permanent, loving homes for over 1,200 dogs and cats! If you are interested in adopting a new pet, PAWS will help find a match for you. All that we ask is that you give our animals happy, loving forever homes.

There are three ways you can meet the animals from our shelter:

  1. View photos and descriptions of our animals online. View cats here! | View dogs here!
  2. Visit one of our Petsmart adoption locations in Austin or San Marcos.
  3. Visit our shelter in Kyle during business hours.

We encourage you to talk to our staff about the kind of pet you are looking for. They know the animals and will help you find your personality match. If you find a dog or cat that you like, then we encourage you to spend some time bonding with them before you make up your mind. We have special areas at the shelter where you can walk and play with them to get to know them better.

Paperwork
Once you make a decision to adopt we will ask you to fill out an adoption application and an adoption contract. Because we love every dog and cat in the shelter, we, quite naturally, screen applicants to help make sure that each pet goes to a permanent and loving home.

What’s Included in the Adoption Fees?

Dogs ready for adoption have had health and behavior screenings, been treated or vaccinated for fleas, ticks, hookworms, roundworms, heartworms, kennel cough, distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza, and rabies. All dogs have been spayed or neutered, microchipped, and have 30 days of free pet insurance (see below).

Cats ready for adoption have had health and behavior screenings, been treated for fleas, ticks, worms, ear mites, feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, panlekopenia, and rabies. All cats have been spayed or neutered, microchipped, and have 30 days of free pet insurance (see below).

Shelter Care
We have partnered with ShelterCare.com to provide 30 days of free pet insurance for all new adoptions. Within 48 hours of adopting your new pet, the coverage will start protecting you from medical expenses such as motor vehicle accidents, fractures, poison ingestion, intestinal parasites, upper respiratory tract infections, ear infections, and much more.

Post-Adoption New Pet Check
We recommend you visit a veterinarian for a thorough exam within three days of taking your new pet home. We’ll be happy to help you find a vet in your area if you do not already have one.

Transition Assistance
If you have other animals at home, ask us for suggestions on how to transition your new pet into the group. Thank you for providing a loving home, and we hope you and your new companion will have a happy life together!
